Falls don’t just happen from heights—they can occur during routine tasks, in familiar areas, and even when you're doing everything “right.” That’s why fall prevention requires more than just hard hats and harnesses. It demands awareness, planning, and a proactive mindset.

Here are some less conventional but effective tips to help keep you and your team safe! Consider implementing one or two of these that you may not be fully embracing to improve employee safety and health.

  • Pre-Shift Mini-Stretch Routine: We get it, many don’t want to stretch, but a quick 2-minute stretch routine can really help with fall prevention. Focus especially on legs, toes, and balance.

  • Use Color Coding for Hazard Zones: Bright tape can visually alert workers to elevation changes, slippery areas, and temporary hazards—especially important in low-light conditions.

  • Rotate Tasks to Reduce Fatigue: Tired workers are more prone to mistakes. Rotate physically demanding tasks more frequently to maintain alertness and coordination.

  • Create a “Fall Watch” Role: Assign someone to regularly scan for new or overlooked fall risks throughout the day. A fresh set of eyes can catch what others miss.

  • Practice “Pause and Scan”: Train workers to pause and assess surroundings before climbing, stepping, or lifting. This can prevent impulse movements that could result in falls.

  • Use Anti-Fog Solutions on Safety Glasses: Clear vision is critical. Fogged lenses and poor visibility cause more slips and falls.
