National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 6! Communities across the country unite around a simple but powerful act: wearing red to raise awareness about women’s heart health. National Wear Red Day shines a light on the fact that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the United States, affecting nearly 45% of women over the age of 20.

Key Actions for Heart Health

  • Know Your Numbers: Track your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and BMI with healthcare professionals to know your risk.

  • Stay Active Daily: At a minimum, aim for light to moderate daily movement. Just walking, stretching, or low‑impact exercise can help keep your heart strong.

  • Choose Heart‑Smart Foods: Focus on getting more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats to support cardiovascular health.

  • Learn CPR: Learning Hands-Only CPR can help save lives, get certified at redcross.org.

  • Support Research: Women remain underrepresented in cardiovascular studies—consider joining the “Research Goes Red” studies.

  • Wear Red & Spread Awareness: Use your voice and your wardrobe to highlight women’s heart health on February 6.

This day is a reminder to take charge of your heart health, understand your risks, and advocate for better awareness and prevention. Whether through learning vital lifesaving skills, staying informed about key health numbers, or joining efforts to support research, we encourage everyone to make meaningful moves toward a healthier future.
