Skin cancer can become a serious health concern, influenced by various risk factors such as excessive sun exposure, fair skin, and a history of sunburns. Our skin, the largest organ in our bodies, plays a crucial role in protecting us from external elements. To prevent skin cancer, here are some risk factors to be aware of and prevention techniques! Skin Cancer Risk Factors

  1. A lighter natural skin color

  2. Skin that burns, freckles, reddens easily, or becomes painful in the sun

  3. Certain types and a large number of moles

  4. A history of sunburns, tanning, or skin cancer in the family

  5. Older age

 

Skin Cancer Prevention

  1. Use sufficient sunscreen

  2. Avoid frequent tanning

  3. Limit UV radiation & excessive exposure

  4. Prevent damage by using chemopreventive agents like vitamins and drugs (beta caroten, selenium, and celecoxib)

  5. Treat sun-damaged skin with topical fluorouracil creams (often only available with a prescription)
