Looking for a way to freshen up your exercise routine? Try hiking! Hiking has numerous health benefits, both physical and mental such as:

  • Building endurance, strength, and coordination

  • Improving your mood: reduce stress, calm anxiety, and lower your risk of depression

  • Reduce the risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, anxiety, osteoporosis, and arthritis

In Springtime especially, hiking can also be a way to explore the great outdoors! Did you know there are over 400 national parks in the USA? Not only that, but there are great trails to see the wildflowers starting to bloom this time of year in the PNW specifically. We thrive in nature, there is no doubt about it, so why not try something new and go for a hike rather than the gym next time? Or if you’re already a hiking connoisseur, try a new hike to keep it interesting.

Another great aspect of hiking is its variability. It can be as low or high intensity as you’d like, all while remaining a low-impact exercise. Even more, it’s something people of all ages can enjoy. Speaking of which, invite a friend next time you go on a hike! While solo hiking can be fun, there is great benefit from hiking with others as well. So, invite a friend, your family, or even join a hiking group/club to help you get outside and exercise!
