Quality sleep is exceptionally important for our mental and physical health throughout our lives. It is recommended that adults sleep at least 7 hours a night as those who sleep less than 7 hours a night are at greater risk for chronic long-term health problems such as coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and obesity. A lack of sleep can also affect our ability to think and focus. Below are some tips on how to improve your quality of sleep:

Tips for Better Sleep:

  1. Stick to a sleep schedule: going to bed and waking up at the same time every day can eventually help one to fall and remain asleep.

  2. Pay attention to what you eat and drink before bed: don’t go to bed hungry but also avoid large meals a couple of hours before bed.

  3. Create a restful environment: limit screen time before bed as well as light and noise in general.

  4. Limit daytime nap length: no more than one hour at a time.

  5. Include physical activity: regular exercise helps promote the body's desire for rest each night.

  6. Manage your worries: try journaling your thoughts before bed or meditating.
