As we transition into the winter months, flu season, and colder weather, it’s important to keep our immune systems strong! Here are some great tips on how to do just that...

  • Less Processed Diet:

    • Include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet to get the necessary nutrients and immune-boosting vitamins.

  • Supplement with Vitamins:

    • Especially Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, and Elderberry.

  • Hydrate More Than You Think:

    • Getting enough water can prevent illness by removing toxins/waste and fighting off infection.

  • Adequate Rest:

    • Sleep 7-9 hours nightly. In studies where sleep was restricted to 4 hours per night over a week, it reduced the body's antibody response by as much as 50%

  • Regular Exercise:

    • Physical activity helps boost your immune system by promoting good circulation.

  • Staying Up to Date on Vaccines:

    • It’s not too late to get your Flu shot!

Why is Our Immune System Weakened in Winter?

Well, your immune system is challenged during the colder months for a few reasons. During the Winter, people tend to stay inside more often which leads to an increase spread in germs. Secondly, as Vitamin D while boosting immunity, also reduce inflammation - lower levels of sunlight exposure poses a threat to our Vitamin D levels. Last by not least, the cold and dry air both outside and indoors dries out mucous membranes - making it easier to catch viruses.

Stay warm and healthy this Winter Season!
